While it’s a great locals spot for rock climbing in the summer once the temperatures drop a few ice climbs form that make for a great opportunity for beginner ice climbers. Tucked up in the pine trees on the edge of Colorado Springs in the southern Front Range the canyon winds up the road to a couple small waterfalls that reliably form once winter solidly sets in. While mostly beginner climbs there are some mixed climbs and a multipitch climb that makes for a good venue to learn to ice climb or improve one’s technique and skills.
San Juans: We are able to offer climbs in the Alpine Loop area of the San Juans from the months of January through June when weather permits. Snow and ice climbing persist well into May and June while the main roads usually open after Memorial Day allowing access to the main trailheads for treks up the main 14ers (Handies, Sunshine, and Redcloud).

Boulder Canyon is a granite climbing area just outside the city of Boulder, less than an hour from Denver. This Front Range climbing area hosts a variety of climbs for beginners and experts alike and is a frequent favorite of locals for a few after work climbs. While many consider Boulder to be the epicenter of Colorado climbing generally Boulder Canyon gets overshadowed by some of it’s better known neighbors. This makes for an excellent place to climb if you want to avoid the crowds and also for those wanting easier hikes to the climbing with some of the climbs being a few feet from the car. With the river running through the canyon summer mornings can be pleasant and the spring and fall can be a phenomenal time to climb. The stellar quality of the granite makes for enjoyable friction to help beginners learn to climb all the domes and cracks Boulder Canyon has to offer

Garden of the Gods is one of the gems of the Front Range climbing scene and as the only certified guides operating in the park we’re excited to show you the best climbing it has to offer. This National Natural Landmark is located in Colorado Springs and features amazing sandstone spires jutting hundreds of feet into the air. The sandstone spires against the blue skies feature everything from beginner slabs climbs to difficult cracks and desert towers. All with Pikes Peak as the backdrop as you climb while falcons fly through the area and mule deer occasionally wander by. There are a variety of climbs that make this an excellent location for beginners as well as more challenging trips for climbers with more experience. With the pleasant weather of Colorado Springs fall is one of the best times and with frequently pleasant weather in winter we can even combine this with a morning of ice climbing in North Cheyenne Canyon.
Red Rock Canyon is another city park that, while it’s part of the same geological formation, isn’t quite as revered as Garden of the Gods. The climbs here are a great location for learning to sport lead or for beginner climbers looking for a little more solitude. Bear and deer are not uncommon and the north-south orientation makes it a great location for early summer mornings. Because the sandstone can become fragile when wet we cannot climb here for a day or two after it rains and will often head to the granite of North Cheyenne Canyon as a backup.
