In this 2 day introduction to mountaineering, we will cover the basic fundamental skills needed to be able to climb a simple, yet technical mountain on your own or in the company of a guide.  Personal gear selection for mountaineering, use of crampons and ice axe, minimum impact travel techniques, efficient movement on moderate rock and snow covered terrain, knots, risk awareness and avoidance techniques will be demonstrated, discussed and practiced during our intro course.  Not only will this course improve your technical skills and movement skills, but also introduce or reinforce outdoor etiquette in the mountains and principles of environmental stewardship. Whether it’s your first time outside or you need a refresh after 20 years, all abilities and experience levels are welcome.  This course takes place in Rocky Mountain National Park and is offered  April-July.

Have you tried ice climbing and ready to improve your technique? Then our 2 day Lake City Ice Park course is perfect for you. You will have a lot of time to climb and ask a professionally trained and experienced ice climbing guide all of your questions. Steep ice, mixed climbing, and leading ice are just some the things that are available to you in this 2 day course. The town of Lake City is charming and has some great local restaurants, a brewery, and coffee shop. We usually stay at The Matterhorn, a very nice motel within a few minutes walk of the ice park. Warming tents with wood stoves, firepits, bathrooms, and picnic tables right near the ice make this a perfect place to learn and stay motivated!

Climb A Flatiron

The flatirons is a world class climbing destination steeped in history. Located right outside downtown Boulder, these rock formations offer many unique adventures. Climb a moderate 1,000 ft face trad climb or a difficult, overhanging sport climb and anything in between. Our featured climbs are the First Flatiron (5.6, 10 Pitches) and the Third Flatiron (5.4, 8 Pitches). Both climbs feature an alpine-like quality with varied terrain, big views, and exhilarating rappels. The Third Flatiron is a perfect climb for a first timer outside where as the First Flatiron is longer and more varied than the Third with huge flakes, dihedrals, and the rollercoaster ridge.
