Pikes Peak Alpine School

Our Story

Who we are

Pikes Peak Alpine School is a mountain school and guide service based in Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region. The School has been teaching and offering guidance to mountaineers, climbers, and snow riders since 1989. We guide year-round; ROCK, SNOW, and ICE on Pikes Peak and beyond. We love rock, snow, and ice. Having the ability to adjust to the current conditions of the terrain allows us to teach, guide, and play year round. Some of our favorite ways to experience the unwavering beauty of the Springs is to climb the technical routes and hike to the summit of our backyard 14er, Pikes Peak. We offer single or multi-pitch climbing on rock in the warmer months and ice climbing in the winter months. Guests can take one of our multi-day mountaineering courses preparing them for climbs on glaciated terrain around the world. Avalanche education is among our core programs at Pikes Peak Alpine School. For a skier/snowboarder looking to get away from the resorts and step out into the backcountry for the first time or a hiker working on the 14ers and looking to include a few winter ascents, avalanche training is a must. Regardless the season, we get out and want you to join us! Our mission at Pikes Peak Alpine School is to provide guidance and education for climbers, mountaineers, skiers, and splitboarders. Our passion is extended to all ages and all levels of experience for the enjoyment and safety of the outdoor community.

Team Photo

Pikes Peak is known to the casual observer as a gentle giant. But on the upper reaches of it’s daunting Northern aspects are some of the finest glacier-carved granite crack climbs in the country. With little representation in out-of-print guide books, it takes first-hand knowledge to access these truly classic lines. From blade-like ridges accented with gendarmes, to clean glacier-polished walls, these routes run from one to eight pitches in length, and the quality of stone is second to none.

Days typically start at 7:00am or earlier depending on objective and go until 5 pm. Climb with our experienced and highly trained guides.  We are here to help you; challenge yourself, achieve your goals and have fun doing it with well planned guidance.

Crestone Peak & Crestone Needle

Crestone Peak and Needle, located in the heart of the Sangre De Cristo Range, are two of the most awe inspiring 14,000 foot+ mountains (14ers) in Colorado.  Their jagged summits dominate the skyline above the surrounding valleys and reward those who ascend them with unforgettable views.  Climbs in the Crestone Group range from long Class 3-4 scrambles to the epic Peak-To-Needle Traverse to the technical Ellingwood Ledges route.  Also known as the Ellingwood Arete, it is one of the 50 classic climbs of North America!  The Crestones offer some of the best alpine rock climbing in Colorado.

Climb with our experienced and highly trained guides.  We are here to help you challenge yourself and achieve your goals while providing the technical expertise needed to safely negotiate these climbs.
