Mountain Angler

Our Story

Who we are

Mountain Angler founder and owner “Action” Jackson Streit has been fly fishing in Colorado for 50 years and guiding for over 40 years. Since 1970, Jackson has fished in Colorado more than 100 days per year. After growing up near Beacon, New York, Jackson earned a business degree from Denver University before moving to Breckenridge. In 1977, Jackson started Summit County’s first guided fly-fishing service, “Trout Tours.” In 1985, Jackson opened Mountain Angler and still owns and operates it to this day! Jackson is the author of “No Nonsense Guide to Fly Fishing in Colorado.” Over the years, Jackson has also written articles for several Colorado publications and been a consultant for various national fly-fishing magazines. In addition to fly fishing Colorado, Jackson has “wet his line” all over the world, including the steelhead rivers of Washington & Oregon, famous brown trout rivers of New Zealand, Chile and Argentina and salt water destinations of the Florida Keys, Belize, Mexico, Christmas Island and the Bahamas. In his free time, Jackson enjoys skiing, golfing, rooting for his favorite Colorado sports teams (Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets and Avalanche) and of course, fly fishing.

Some Adventure Options

Blue River (Upper) – Above Dillon Reservoir

The first quality public water on the Blue River is known as the “Stairsteps” – some great “beginner water” just north (downstream) of the Town of Breckenridge. At the Highway 9 Bridge near Tiger Road you will find a half-mile of quality public access water on either side of the bridge. Downstream, you can fish inlet of the Blue River to Dillon Reservoir, where fish stack up pre-spawn in the spring and the fall and also to feed, especially in the early season during runoff.
