Climb Eldorado Canyon State Park with The Mountain Guides Colorado. Located at the base of the Rocky Mountain foothills, just minutes away from Denver and Boulder offering world-class climbing.
Known as “Eldo” by the locals, the towering sandstone cliffs of Eldorado Canyon State Park provide some of the most unique traditional climbing in the entire country. Eldorado Canyon also has a deep root in climbing history with legends like Layton Kor who pioneered these walls decades ago paving the way for modern day “trad” climbing. With over 600 routes and walls up to 700 feet high wall, Eldo offers something for every climber.
Eldorado Canyon has slabs, thin face, cracks, corners, and big overhangs, mostly on beautiful, bullet-hard sandstone. With approaches between as little as a minute to as long as no more than an hour, Eldo has not only some of the best climbing in the country, but the most accessible. The setting is dramatic and inspiring, surrounding the climber with steep, complex cliffs towering high above South Boulder Creek.

The Crown Jewel of Rocky Mountain NP, Longs Peak is one of the most coveted summits in the West. At 14,259 feet above sea level and over 7 miles from the trailhead, this summit will make you earn your views. Sometimes attempted in a single day, Longs is more commonly climbed as an overnight.
The most popular route is The Keyhole, an exposed but non-technical passage that spirals around the mountain. Another option, the Cables Route rises directly from The Boulderfield campground. This historic route involves a few technical pitches and offers the most direct line to the summit.
In the 1900s, mountaineers rode horses to The Boulderfield and climbed The North Face with the help from a large steel cable attached to the rock by eye-bolts. These days, climbers hike from the Longs Peak trailhead at 9,500′ themselves, often stopping to camp in The Boulderfield. From there, they wander up talus to the crux of the route — a thirty-meter 5.4 slab often wet or icy. After completing the technical climbing, the route traverses up and left as it tiptoes above The Diamond to the summit. This is a superb introduction to high-altitude mountaineering, with a wide variety of terrain and skill sets to learn

With the most stunning terrain in North America, Rocky Mountain National Park offers a lifetime of opportunities to ski and snowboard. Learning to negotiate the backcountry takes years of practice. An AIARE 1 Avalanche Course with The Mountain Guides Colorado can jump start your learning. We designed our avalanche courses to give you tools to make real decisions in avalanche terrain.
All AIARE 1 courses at our Rocky Mountain location utilize a hybrid learning model. The course starts as soon as you enroll with an online learning module. Then you’ll meet with your instructor via an evening video chat session two days before the course starts. If the field days start Saturday, you would meet with your instructor Thursday evening to review the online learning, discuss the current avalanche hazard forecast and plan the tours for the field days.
Anyone who travels in the backcountry needs to continue their education every year. An AIARE 1 or avalanche rescue course is a great place to start or review if you’re feeling rusty. An AIARE 2 course is best for skiers and snowboarders comfortable with their skills and looking for the next step. Along with our AIARE Courses, we offer a number of clinics and opportunities that get you into the mountains!
