Aspen Whitewater Rafting

Our Story

Who we are

Aspen Whitewater Rafting was founded in 2004 by a group of professional, experienced river guides whose life passion is whitewater. Likewise, you won’t find AWR owners sitting in a corporate office somewhere. AWR’s hands-on owners will be assisting you in every step of your adventure. From making your reservations to ensure you pick the best adventure for your needs, to guiding you down the rivers alongside their all-star staff of experienced river guides. We are extremely proud of our staff of outdoor professionals. For many of them, whitewater is a career, not just a summer job. Therefore, our core group of guides take whitewater rafting seriously and strive to provide each guest with a fun, safe and exciting day on the river.

This guided instructional tour on the Roaring Fork River is the perfect way to test out paddle boarding for the first time. Running through the spectacular North Star Nature Preserve, just a mile east of Aspen.  This slow-moving stretch of river meanders past wetlands and grasslands at the foot of Aspen Mountain, giving paddlers plenty of time to soak in the big views. Bring a bathing suit and a quick-dry top to take a dip in the refreshing water, or take a seat on your board, meditate, and become one with nature. Either way, this tranquil float will leave you cleansed, calm, and eager to do more paddling.

This half-day class III section offers a classic, action-packed Colorado whitewater rafting experience for long-time rafters and beginners alike. This scenic stretch of the Arkansas River is defined by continuous, technical Class III whitewater rafting that offers plenty of excitement for all abilities.

Under the backdrop of the 14,000 ft. Collegiate Peak range you will paddle through rapids like The Miracle Mile, Beaver Falls, and House Rock. Because of the technical nature of this section, a fair amount of paddling is required. Participants should be interested in taking an active role in helping move their raft gracefully through the complicated boulder mazes and rock gardens that define the Fractions section.

Upper Roaring Fork

Close to Aspen/Snowmass and suitable for all abilities of rafters, the Upper Roaring Fork is a locals’ favorite when it comes to half-day rafting adventures for a good reason: It’s super convenient and super fun.

The trip starts off in beautiful Woody Creek Canyon before hitting its stride in Snowmass Canyon, where you’ll encounter rollicking class III rapids such as Toothache, Pipeline, and Sledgehammer. Everyone in the raft will need to do their share of medium-intensity paddling as you navigate the drops, but you’ll get breaks in between, making this run suitable for ages 8 and up.

Whether it’s your first time on the river or your 20th, you’ll love the rapids and scenic views on this stretch of the Fork.
