Our Story

Who we are

Winter, summer, spring, and fall, Aspen Alpine Guides offer every excursion to satisfy your adventurous side. Since 1987, AAG has provided professional, quality mountain guiding adventures in the Aspen area and beyond. We are an equal opportunity service provider and employer operating under a special use permit from the USDA Forest Service, White River National Forest. Our backcountry mountain adventures span guided year-round trips including hiking, rock climbing, mountaineering, snow-shoeing, cross-country ski instruction and tours, backcountry skiing, out-of-bounds lift-assisted skiing, mountain biking, backpacking, hut trips on the 10th Mountain Hut System, and High Altitude Training for runners and Cyclists. We also offer a series of international trekking and climbing trips, as well as American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) courses. With areas of operation spanning from Crested Butte to Aspen, Leadville to Vail, Telluride, and Moab, Utah, we specialize in creating custom backcountry adventures for individuals and groups of all abilities and sizes.”

Varying degrees of difficulty and routes make the Colorado 14’ers a challenge for everyone. Peaks include North and South Maroon (the Bells), Pyramid Peak, Snowmass Mountain, Capitol Peak, Mount Elbert, La Plata Peak, Mount Massive, and Castle and Conundrum Peaks. Additional peaks, routes, and areas, including Mount Sopris, are available upon request.

Pyramid, the Bells, and Capitol require a mandatory qualification and training day prior to the climb. All safety equipment including helmets, harnesses, ropes, and anchors are included.

Snowshoeing is one of the best ways to see Aspen in winter. Head out for a half or full day through aspen groves, snow filled forests, wide open valleys, or wintery ridge lines. Our medically trained and certified guides know the Aspen area better than anyone and will tailor your adventure just for you!

Half or Full Day Hikes

The wilderness around Aspen offers limitless day hike options. We offer full or half day hikes that range from the mellowest beginner trails to the steepest and rockiest the valley has to offer.

Wander through a wildflower meadow, enjoy lunch beside an alpine lake, walk along a ridgeline surrounded by a sea of Rocky Mountain summits. With permits spanning from Aspen to Vail to Crested Butte and beyond, we can offer the ultimate mountain hiking experience!

Fourteener Peak Climbs

Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced Rock Climbing

Rock Climb on Independence Pass and in the Roaring Fork Valley. AAG & AE rock climbing guides and instructors love to teach all levels for kids and adults. Instruction in basic rock skills, knots, belaying and movement on rock. All safety equipment including climbing shoes, helmets, harnesses, ropes, and anchors are included.

We also offer more advanced climbing adventures for experienced rock climbers.
